318/365: Sometimes You’re Hot, Sometimes You’re Cold

Today was a busy day, and also a rainy nasty day. I really didn’t get out and take any photographs I liked, so it was another evening with a set up studio in the Stout living room.

I’ve pretty much taken over the Stout living room at 11 the last few days. Thiers a few students who always ask what I’m doing, but none of them ever want to be a model for me.

So that left me as my own model, and as we’ve seen in the past I’m not very photogenic.

That being said, I decided to spice up the photo a little. First I tried to mix gel colors to have them blend in the middle, but that just didn’t work the way I wanted it so I went with two contrasting colors.

Red is such a hard color for a digital camera to control. I don’t know exactly what it is about it, but I have read about it and practiced with it but I still haven’t learned how to control it.

That being said I always like to play around with a red gel, just to see if I can figure it out. It does get away from me in this shot a little, but when I dialed down the flash I lost the contrast I wanted. I think the blue does a good job evening it out, but not perfect.

Keep learning and striving for perfect, it’s how you get better.

305/365: Movember

So this month I’m partaking in Movember to try and help gain some donations to help battle prostate cancer. I should have actually shaved yesterday, but didn’t decide to partake until today.

This is the first time I’ve been cleaned shaved in almost 6 years. For as long as I can remember I’ve always has a mustache and a beard. It’s defiantly a different feeling not having a beard.

Kendra and I decided to have some fun, and so I took a photo after every little shave we did. I wanted to try out a bunch of different styles to figure out the best to grow this month.

Which one do you like best? Let me know!

104/365: Be Awesome

Earlier tonight I took a bunch of photographs for the Family Resource Center at the OSU’s Family and Graduate Student Housing, and I almost forgot to get a shot for the blog.

This shot was a real quick setup shot in my living room, with the inspiration coming from Kendra, and a shot I had seen earlier today. Kendra leaves me notes from time to time, and most of the time they only say “Be Awesome.”

These notes, all be it small, always lift my spirits. It doesn’t matter if I’m having a bad day or a great day, I always feel better after seeing one of these notes. I had also seen a photo today of a Note to self, and I really just enjoyed the simplicity.

I wrote this little note to myself, and then used two flashes. One on camera that was bounced from the ceiling, and one on the ground with an orange gel attached. I really wanted to get a shadow off of the pen, but to get the photo taken by midnight it would have been pushing it.

So, I scarified the exact look I was going for to make the deadline.

I hope everyone had a safe Thursday, to bad Stillwater didn’t get any rain…
